Birthday portraits

Each year, close to their birthdays, we take the kids for formal portraits at Target. Not too fancy, but nice portrait pictures at a decent price. This year we did the portraits at the same time for the kids...paid once and got double the portraits, plus some adorable pics of the kids together. Target now has a deal where you can buy the whole digital album and have all the rights to the images (so we are totally cool posting all the pictures online like this).

Ellie's pictures came out just as fantastic as they usually do. She had a lot of fun.

Calvin was a little unsure of the whole thing, but seemed to do okay. We got some cute pictures...and then he found a baseball and of course it ended up in the photos.

The kids had fun taking pictures together. And I couldn't have asked for anything more special.

Happy 2nd Birthday Calvin!

Happy Birthday Calvin!!

What a day this little dude had! This morning we did tiger photos before school. At school he had a party with his friends which involved a crown and donuts (as every party really should). After dinner at home he got to open presents and have cake. And the cake had a baseball on it! He kept saying, "I eat the ball".

Calvin is smart and spunky and social and silly. He's the class clown, but also the one to insist on cleaning up and pushing in chairs. He loves the grocery store really only to get to "talk" to new people. He has had a big year with surgery and a hospital stay, but he's brave and strong and a real trooper. During his most recent visit to Urgent Care, when he saw the pulse/ox that the nurse had, he held out his finger; apparently a first time the nurse had seen a kid do that.

On Monday, he will start in a new classroom as school as he is now 2. It'll be quite a change for him as they spend more time in other rooms and get to be on a different playground. We have no idea how the transition will go, but I am expecting tears in the mornings for a while. All his teachers have expressed to me how much they will miss him in the Pooh Bear room. They say his charm and silliness balances out the classroom. He is sweet and has stood up for friends (resulting in some discussion with him that hitting a classmate, even if they hit your friend, is not okay).

His language is developing at such a fast pace now. Most of the time he is putting multiple words together to tell us what he wants/needs. Sometimes it can be tough to understand the individual words, but we usually can get the gist of what he is talking about or wanting. He can count to three and knows most of his colors.

This past year has been a roller coaster with him watching him grow into an opinionated, funny toddler who is running and jumping. My little extrovert is charming and sweet who loves his big sister.

Happy Birthday Calvin!
