Nick's day started off really well and with a surprise from his coworkers. Check out the video:
Although he got some amazing cupcakes from work for breakfast (he even brought home one of the cupcakes with the M&Ms for me and Ellie to share...how nice of him, that was totally the one I was eyeing when I first saw the video too!), Ellie and I made Nick a cake last night to enjoy today. When I asked Ellie how we should decorate the cake, she insisted that it be a Batman cake. Fortunately I had some black food coloring gel which I was able to utilize for the cake. I drew the logo by hand and I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Ellie is definitely becoming an amazing baking assistant.
This morning Ellie helped me finish wrapping and wrote her name on the presents that she had picked out for Nick. She and I went shopping a couple weekends ago and she helped me pick out some great presents for Nick.
I left work a little early and went with Nick to pick up Ellie from school. As it was Nick's birthday, he got to choose dinner. No surprise, he chose BBQ...
After dinner, we came home and ate cake and opened presents. Now, Ellie did pick out the present for Nick. But, in her defense, Nick was kinda obsessed with the talking Boo doll at Disneyworld and loves to play with it at the Disney Store when he goes to the mall. So, it was an obvious choice for Ellie...something her dad would love but yet, she would get to play with! Perfect! He was pretty excited about the talking Boo doll. He also got an ice cream maker (put the ingredients in the ball and roll it around and it makes ice cream! No freezer required!), new underwear (pizza and hamburgers on it also picked out by Ellie), a Buzz Lightyear shirt (also picked by Ellie), running shorts, shirt, and socks (picked by me. Nick has been really great about running 4-5 times a week and with the weather getting warmer I got him some real running clothes), and a FitBit (a fancy pedometer).
Nick said he had a great birthday. Ellie and I were so happy to get to celebrate with him. From an early morning cupcake and celebration with coworkers to dinner, cake, and presents with the family it definitely was a FULL day (oh yeah, he went and saw a movie with a friend after work this afternoon too!). The Batman cake was prefect for him, definitely for the kid at heart.
Happy Birthday Nick!
